Une d\u00e9l\u00e9tion dans ce g\u00e8ne peut entra\u00eener une p16 insuffisante ou non fonctionnelle, ce qui acc\u00e9l\u00e8re le cycle cellulaire et provoque de nombreux types de cancer. p16 peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 comme biomarqueur pour am\u00e9liorer la pr\u00e9cision du diagnostic histologique de la n\u00e9oplasie intra\u00e9pith\u00e9liale cervicale de grade 3 (CIN).
